Position Overview

The Systems Engineer (SE) plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the school’s IT infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of IT (HOIT) or Manager of IT (MIT), the SE will ensure that the school’s systems are secure, robust, and scalable. This individual will also contribute to operational planning and the strategic development of the school’s technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot physical printers and manage network printing, including end-user support and printer fleet management.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Cisco access points and switches.
  • Implement and manage Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine) policies and strategies.
  • Liaise with network vendors to ensure optimal performance and service delivery.
  • Configure, administer, and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS services.
  • Maintain and manage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere).
  • Oversee backup operations using Nakivo and Acronis, and report any issues proactively.
  • Provide IT Helpdesk support, focusing primarily on network-related issues.
  • Manage staff and student devices using Google MDM and enforce MDM policies.
  • Administer and maintain firewall policies to ensure a secure network environment.
  • Prepare and present weekly/monthly analytical reports with insights and recommendations to the HOIT or MIT.
  • Develop and regularly review a multi-year strategic technology infrastructure plan.
  • Ensure all IT operations align with school policies and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with school staff to foster a positive and technology-forward culture.
  • Stay updated on current technology trends and share relevant research and developments.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to remain current in the field.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Networking, or a related field (Postgraduate qualifications are a plus).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Systems Engineering or similar role.
  • Cisco certifications are required.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE.
  • Proficiency in managing Google Workspace and Google MDM is highly desirable.
  • Google certification is a plus.
  • Experience with Fortinet firewalls is a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrated expertise across a variety of platforms and applications.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
