HR Manager

About the Role

Sumathi Universal is seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Manager to lead and drive our human resources function. This is a pivotal role for a results-oriented professional who is passionate about building strong teams, nurturing talent, and shaping a high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with Sumathi Universal's business objectives.
  • Lead the full recruitment lifecycle — from workforce planning and job posting to interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
  • Design and manage performance appraisal systems to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary procedures in compliance with labour laws.
  • Manage compensation and benefits programmes, ensuring competitiveness and equity.
  • Develop and deliver training and development initiatives to build organisational capability.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, ensure data integrity, and produce reports for senior leadership.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives and support a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Partner with department heads to provide strategic HR advice and support business decisions.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of Sri Lankan labour law and HR compliance requirements.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven leadership and people management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms and MS Office Suite.
  • High level of discretion, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
