CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
The Law & Society Trust is a human rights, research and advocacy organization and is currently registered under the Companies Act No: 07 . of 2007 It’s mission is to promote the full realization of the rule of law, Justiciability of rights and public accountability.
It operates under the same principles of transparency and accountability, when managing the grants it receives from multiple donors.
1. Roles and Responsibilities.
The Project Accountant reports to the Senior Project Accountant and Finance Manager. The role is divided into project accounting, financial management, and general administrative support.
Project Accounting & Data Management
- Account Maintenance: Maintain project accounts in strict accordance with specific donor requirements and program staff coordination.
- Documentation: Manage electronic and physical filing systems for all donor-related financial documents, contracts, and reports.
- Invoicing & Payments: Maintain comprehensive records of all invoices received and payee statements for suppliers.
- Data Entry: Accurately key financial data into the company accounting system and ensure all transactions are error-free.
- Reimbursements & Advances: Review employee expenses, process reimbursements, and verify the accuracy of cash advance settlements with timely follow-up.
Financial Monitoring & Reporting
- Budgeting: Plan financial needs for assigned projects and monitor expenditures to prevent budget overruns.
- Cash Management: Monitor bank accounts regularly and ensure sufficient fund availability by liaising with relevant interlocutors.
- Variance Analysis: Track project expenses against budgets and generate monthly variance reports for the program team.
- Compliance: Validate invoices against services/items received and ensure all donor reporting is completed within deadlines for review by the Head of Finance.
General Support
- Departmental Assistance: Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the Finance Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
2. Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following academic and professional criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional Qualification: Must hold a recognized professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in the financial management of a non-profit (NGO) organization.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Cloud or a similar professional accounting software package.
- Communication: Excellent communication and language skills.
- Preferred age: Below 35 years
