Background

MSF South Asia annually recruits around 200 staff from South and Central Asian countries to work as International Mobile Staff (IMS) in MSF operations worldwide. The PSO will support the IMS’ and HQ staff on their psychosocial needs.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Consultant will conduct counseling and clinical sessions for the staff, including but not limited to:

  • Organize briefings and debriefings psychosocial sessions for international staff going out on assignment with MSF
  • Case management of referred or briefed IMS that is outside the scope of the psychological duty of care
  • Case management includes checking on therapist satisfaction/ wellbeing of those referred, follow-up on those showing in debriefing worrying signs, and those in briefing requesting or needing field follow-up.
  • Create, maintain therapist network
  • Referral of international and national staff and MSF Office staff to therapist network
  • Preferred participation in Rapid Response Team (meaning within 24 hour availability; max. 7 days)
  • Feedback to Head HR on any relevant issues gathered during the talks/notes, in keeping client confidentiality
  • Training of South Asia staff on psychosocial issues
  • Maintain IMS reporting data regarding number of briefs/debrief
  • Collaborate with the Staff Health Focal Point to conduct staff health sessions for the MSF South Asia staff
  • Management of psychosocial support for MSF South Asia HQ staff, including referrals

Workshop

  • Participation in MSF OCA (Operation Center Amsterdam) yearly workshop (3 days).
  • Visit to various projects along with the PSU coordinator.

Information source

  • Is aware of social and political situation and keeps information up to date.
  • Passes on all relevant information related to MSF scope of action and context.

Place in the MSF Office

  • The consultant will report to Head of Psychosocial Unit – Holland and hierarchically will report to the Director HR & Facilities - MSF South Asia (Colombo).

Requirements

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in psychology

Experience

  • Proven experience in psychosocial support, counseling, or mental health services, with mandatory clinical experience in providing mental health and psychosocial interventions.
  • Experience in humanitarian settings, working with NGOs, or with vulnerable populations like refugees, IDPs, or survivors of SGBV is often preferred.
  • Experience in facilitation and training is highly beneficial.

Other requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication in English, as well as excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Proficiency in psychosocial support techniques, counseling, crisis intervention, and case management
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.

Benefits

Contract, payment and other Indication

  • MSF consultant will get LKR 82,000 (Sri Lankan Rupees Eighty-Two Thousand) fixed as a payment for Four days in a month [additionally for the days worked over and above Four days LKR 20,500 (per day compensation) will be paid (Before Tax).
  • Any additional expenses must be pre-approved and will be reimbursed on the submission of bills.
  • Consultancy period - one year
