Role Overview

As Assistant Manager – Engineering, you will support the Chief Engineer in overseeing the day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring the efficient maintenance of the property's facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. You will assist in leading the engineering team, managing maintenance projects, coordinating with internal departments and external contractors, and driving operational excellence through effective planning, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in managing the daily operations of the engineering department and providing technical leadership to the team.
  • Support the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering and maintenance projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering team members while monitoring performance and supporting their professional development.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programmes to ensure the efficient operation of buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor resource allocation and support the efficient utilisation of manpower, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensure engineering operations comply with company standards, statutory regulations, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Assist in preparing and managing engineering budgets while monitoring expenditure and supporting cost control initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operational departments to ensure their engineering and technical requirements are met promptly and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, suppliers, and contractors to support maintenance activities and project execution.
  • Identify operational risks, recommend practical solutions to recurring issues, and support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare reports on engineering activities, maintenance performance, and project progress for review by senior management.

Qualifications and required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional engineering certification or licensure will be an added advantage, where applicable.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of engineering experience with progressively increasing responsibilities, preferably within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, building systems, maintenance practices, and engineering technologies.
  • Good understanding of project management principles and resource planning.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and manage external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in preparing reports, managing budgets, and using relevant computer applications.
  • A proactive approach with a strong commitment to operational excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
