We at Amana Takaful Insurance, a well-established insurance company in Sri Lanka, are seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, and results-oriented Chief Motor Engineer to lead our Motor Engineering Division. This is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing motor engineering operations, claims assessment standards, fraud detection initiatives, repair quality management, and technical support for the company’s motor insurance portfolio.

We are looking for a professional with strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and extensive experience in motor claims engineering ideally within the insurance industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Leadership
    • Lead and manage the Motor Engineering Department across the company’s branch network.
    • Develop and implement best-practice motor claims assessment procedures.
    • Provide technical guidance on complex, high-value, and contentious motor claims.
    • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and fairness in loss assessments and claim settlements.
    • Monitor advancements in automotive technology and recommend relevant process improvements.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Monitor claim costs, repair trends, and departmental performance metrics.
    • Develop and implement cost-control measures while ensuring customer satisfaction.
    • Improve turnaround times for motor claim settlements.
    • Drive digital transformation and innovation within motor engineering division.
  • Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Motor Engineers, Assessors, and Technical Officers.
    • Establish performance objectives and conduct periodic evaluations.
    • Promote a culture of technical excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.
    • Organize training programs on emerging vehicle technologies and claims practices.
  • Claims Assessment & Investigation
    • Oversee vehicle inspections and preparation of technical assessment reports.
    • Review and approve repair estimates, valuation reports, and salvage assessments.
    • Investigate suspicious and potentially fraudulent motor claims.
    • Conduct root-cause analysis of major losses and recommend corrective actions.
    • Liaise with loss adjusters, legal teams, surveyors, and investigators when required.
  • Repair Network Management
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with garages, repair centers, vehicle agents, and spare part suppliers.
    • Evaluate and approve authorized repair facilities.
    • Conduct periodic audits of repair quality, turnaround times, and compliance standards.
    • Negotiate repair costs and service level agreements to achieve cost efficiencies.
  • Qualifications & Experience
    • Essential Requirements
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related discipline.
      • Professional Engineering qualification from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
      • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in motor engineering, vehicle assessment, or motor insurance claims.
      • Minimum 5 years of senior management experience in motor engineering, vehicle assessment, or motor insurance environment.
      • IAESL Fellowship Member.
      • Thorough knowledge of motor vehicle construction, repair methods, vehicle valuation, and accident damage assessment.
      • Strong understanding of motor insurance policy coverage and claims procedures.
  • Technical Competencies
    • Expertise in vehicle inspection and damage assessment.
    • Knowledge of hybrid, electric, and advanced vehicle technologies.
    • Familiarity with estimating software and digital claims platforms.
    • Strong analytical and investigative capabilities.
    • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
