POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and academically accomplished Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/ Professor and Head of Computing to lead the Computing Department at SLIIT – Northern Uni. The selected candidate will play a key role in providing academic leadership, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, research, curriculum development, and quality assurance while fostering innovation and maintaining high academic standards. The role involves overseeing departmental operations, supporting faculty development, promoting industry engagement, and ensuring compliance with university policies and accreditation requirements, while demonstrating strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a commitment to academic excellence and student success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Department of Computing, ensuring academic excellence, innovation, and continuous quality improvement.
- Lead curriculum planning, development, review, and implementation in line with industry trends, accreditation standards, and university requirements.
- Teaching and overseeing teaching, learning, assessment, student progression, and academic performance to maintain high educational standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and support academic staff in teaching, research, publications, professional development, and performance management.
- Promote research, innovation, grant acquisition, industry collaboration, and community engagement to enhance the department's academic reputation and research output.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, quality assurance frameworks, accreditation requirements, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Manage departmental strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, staffing, and operational activities to achieve academic and institutional objectives.
- Foster strong partnerships with industry, professional bodies, research organizations, and academic institutions to enhance student employability, collaborative research, and programme development.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must have a First-Class Honours four-year bachelor’s degree in computing or a related discipline, together with an earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a relevant field; or
- A First- or Second-Class Honours bachelor’s degree in computing or a related discipline, together with a postgraduate qualification at SLQF Level 9 or above, and an earned Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a relevant field of Computing.
- Applicants should have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience demonstrating excellence in teaching, research, and/or industry practice after obtaining a bachelor's degree, with a strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Applicants should have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in academic leadership or administrative position within a recognized higher education institution.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, programme accreditation, quality assurance, academic administration, and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Excellent leadership, strategic planning, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and people management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary academic teams, establish industry collaborations, promote research and innovation, and contribute significantly to the University's strategic growth and internationalization.
