Accountant

The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA), Sri Lanka's premier organization for mercantile cricket, is seeking an experienced, proactive, and detail-oriented Accountant to oversee the Association's accounting and financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and other management reports.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring timely collections and payments.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow.
  • Maintain the general ledger, fixed asset register, and inventory records.
  • Prepare payroll, statutory payments, and ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and liaison with external auditors, bankers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Supervise finance support staff where required and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes.

Requirements

  • Full or part qualification in CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification. Applicants with a degree in Accounting or Finance will have an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a responsible Accountant or Senior Accounting position.
  • Sound knowledge of Sri Lankan accounting standards, taxation, payroll, and statutory compliance.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and computerized accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a membership-based organization, sports body, or hospitality environment will be an added advantage.
