Technical Officer - Civil

The Technical Officer will be responsible for supervising day-to-day site activities to ensure that construction work is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. The role involves supporting site planning, reviewing structural and architectural drawings, assisting with setting-out and surveying activities, monitoring construction quality through inspections and testing, and identifying and reporting defects or non-conformities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily construction activities and ensure that all work complies with project specifications and approved drawings.
  • Review structural and architectural drawings and assist with site setting-out and surveying activities.
  • Inspect construction materials, monitor workmanship and conduct quality checks.
  • Identify and report structural defects, quality issues and non-conformities.
  • Maintain site logs, record measurements and provide progress updates to project managers.
  • Report delays, technical issues and other site-related concerns promptly.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and site teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Assign tasks to site teams and monitor their performance to ensure efficient use of labour and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with construction standards, safety procedures and company requirements.

Candidate Profile

  • A National Diploma (ND), National Diploma in Technology (NDT), Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE), National Certificate in Technology (NCT) in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent recognised technical qualification.
  • A minimum of one to three years’ practical experience in building construction projects.
  • Sound knowledge of construction methods, site supervision and quality control practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the use of basic surveying instruments.
  • Familiarity with construction standards, technical specifications and safety regulations.
  • Good communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with subcontractors, site teams and project management personnel.
