JOB OVERVIEW:
We’re on the lookout for a full-time Senior Demand Planning Executive – Systems & Automation to join our team on-site in Colombo. This isn’t just a do your tasks and go home kind of role. We want someone who thrives on solving problems, isn’t afraid to speak up with new ideas (right or wrong), and genuinely cares about making things better every single day.
As a Demand Planner, you’ll dive into sales data, spot patterns others miss, predict future demand, and make sure our clients never have to worry about stockouts or excess inventory. You’ll collaborate with Account Managers, Operations, and Clients, while bringing your own insights to the table to push the team forward.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze historical sales data, market trends, seasonality, and promotions to create accurate demand forecasts.
- Monitor stock-on-hand levels and determine reorder points based on forecasted demand, lead times, and buffer/safety stock.
- Recommend reorder quantities and timing to avoid stockouts or excess inventory.
- Partner with Account Managers, Operations, and Clients to ensure forecasts match business goals.
- Spot anomalies, forecast errors, and hidden patterns to continuously improve models.
- Maintain SKU-level forecasting across global marketplaces (Amazon, Shopify, Tiktok, walmart etc.).
- Work hands-on with Google Sheets, Excel, and forecasting tools to track and visualize data.
- Deliver clear insights and recommendations to both clients and internal teams.
- Collaborate with supply planners and procurement to align purchasing with forecasted demand.
- Directly handle foreign client accounts, with weekly meetings and conversations to deliver stock and sales updates as well as strategic decisions/recommendations.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Demand Planning and Inventory Control team and the system development team for the ongoing System Development project.
- Convert manual planning processes into clear, structured SOPs and functional requirements for the developers.
- Collaborate with team members to gather their forecasting and inventory ideas/approaches, and turn them into clear SOPs or documentation for the development team to build into the system.
- Manage the back-and-forth with developers when they have clarifying questions, check with the relevant team members, finalize the answer, and communicate it back.
- Review and validate system outputs once developers implement each piece - test against real scenarios, flag gaps.
- Continue as the ongoing point of contact for the system even after initial rollout - flagging bugs, requesting fixes, and scoping new feature requests as the team’s needs evolve.
- Balance this system/coordination work alongside regular hands-on responsibilities - manual forecasting and inventory planning for clients, which continues until the relevant processes are fully automated.
- Research and test advanced demand forecasting, AI/ML, and statistical models.
- Analyze forecast performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Research and develop solutions for complex demand patterns, seasonality, stockouts, and new products.
- Drive continuous R&D and innovation to enhance ProActiveChain’s demand forecasting system.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management / Statistics or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in demand planning or forecasting, ideally in e-commerce or retail.
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, formulas, data modeling).
- Ability to document manual processes as clear, structured SOPs.
- Familiarity with Amazon Seller Central, ERP systems, or inventory tools is a plus.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Strong communicator who can work across teams, manage multiple client accounts, and coordinate with an external development team.
- Comfortable explaining planning logic to non-planning people (developers) and translating their questions back to the team.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and driven by ownership and accountability.
- Prior experience working with or helping build a system (ERP, planning tool, or custom-built platform) - ideally on the giving requirements to developers side.
- Most importantly: someone who’s open to discussing improvements, experimenting with ideas, and adding value beyond the job description.
