Junior Executive / Senior Staff Officer – Compliance Review

The job holder will be responsible for conducting compliance reviews of branches and departments to assess adherence to applicable regulatory requirements, laws, directions, circulars, internal policies, procedures and controls. The role will be similar in nature to a review function performed by Internal Audit; however, it will operate from the Compliance Department's Second Line of Defence perspective, focusing on compliance risks, regulatory adherence, identification of gaps and exceptions, and monitoring corrective actions.

Role Profile

The job holder will be responsible for conducting compliance reviews of branches and departments to assess adherence to applicable regulatory requirements, laws, directions, circulars, internal policies, procedures and controls. The role will be similar in nature to a review function performed by Internal Audit; however, it will operate from the Compliance Department's Second Line of Defence perspective, focusing on compliance risks, regulatory adherence, identification of gaps and exceptions, and monitoring corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled and ad-hoc compliance reviews of branches, departments and business functions.
  • Assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory directions, circulars, guidelines, internal policies and procedures.
  • Review processes, transactions, records, documentation and controls to identify compliance gaps and exceptions.
  • Identify and assess non-compliance, control deviations, process deficiencies and emerging compliance risks.
  • Maintain appropriate review working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare comprehensive compliance review reports detailing findings, risk implications, root causes and recommendations.
  • Discuss findings with relevant branch and departmental management and obtain management responses.
  • Follow up on agreed corrective actions and monitor the progress of remediation.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date register of compliance findings and outstanding remedial actions.
  • Assist in developing and updating compliance review checklists, methodologies, procedures and reporting formats.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and assist in assessing their impact on the Company's operations.
  • Support the Compliance Department in identifying emerging regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Work collaboratively with Risk, Internal Audit, Legal, Branch Operations, Policy and Business Governance Department, Operational Governance Department and other relevant functions where required.
  • Perform any other compliance-related duties assigned by the Head of Compliance / Management.

Candidate Profile

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Business Management, Compliance, Auditing or a related Field.
  • Part qualification in ICASL, ACCA, CIMA, IBSL, or another relevant professional qualification will be an added advantage.
  • 04 - 05 years work experience in Compliance, Internal Audit, Branch Operations or a similar function will be preferred.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment applicable to the Sri Lankan financial services sector, with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify compliance gaps, exceptions and emerging risks.
  • Excellent attention to detail, professional skepticism and sound judgment.
  • Good report-writing, documentation and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present review findings and recommendations.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with branch managers, departmental heads and other stakeholders.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to travel to branches as required for compliance reviews.
  • Good command of English and Sinhala; proficiency in Tamil will be an added advantage.
