HYDROGEOLOGY EXPERT CONSULTANT (01 POSITION) ASSIGNMENT BASIS

Mahaweli Consultancy Bureau (MCB) invites applications from dynamic, proactive and suitably qualified professionals for the position of Hydrogeology Expert Consultant.
Scope of Work
The Hydrogeology Expert shall undertake, but not be limited to, the following tasks:
- Assist in identifying suitable groundwater sampling locations within the study areas, considering hydrogeological conditions, historical records, and available groundwater information.
- Support the identification and interpretation of fractures and structural features in hard-rock formations that influence groundwater occurrence and movement.
- Assist in identifying regional groundwater flow patterns using conventional hydrogeological methods and available historical data.
- Provide technical guidance for groundwater recharge assessment using data generated through the proposed study and other relevant information sources.
- Support the interpretation of hydrogeological information in conjunction with isotope-based investigation results.
- Recommend appropriate groundwater protection and groundwater development measures for the study areas.
- Share professional knowledge and practical experience relevant to the hydrogeological conditions of the project area and provide technical advice to the project team.
- Support the preparation of training materials and training manuals related to groundwater protection and groundwater development.
- Review technical outputs and provide recommendations for improving groundwater assessment and management activities under the project.
Key Deliverables
The consultant shall provide:
- Technical guidance on groundwater sampling site selection.
- Recommendations on groundwater flow interpretation and recharge assessment.
- Technical inputs for the interpretation of isotope and hydrogeological data.
- Recommendations for groundwater protection and development strategies.
- Sketch training manuals and training materials on groundwater protection and development.
- A brief final consultancy report summarizing activities undertaken, findings, and recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
The consultant should possess:
- A degree or higher qualification in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Water Resources, or a related field.
- Proven experience in hydrogeological investigations, particularly in hard-rock terrains in Sri Lanka.
- Experience in groundwater assessment, groundwater recharge studies, and interpretation of hydrogeological data.
- Familiarity with isotope hydrology applications will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience relevant to the project study areas and Sri Lankan hydrogeological conditions.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in hydrogeological investigations (preferred in project area).
- Experience in water management or climate resilience projects is preferred.
