Overview
DPO Lanka (Private) Limited is a growing food distribution company serving diverse sectors including foodservice, industry and other food-related businesses. We are seeking a passionate and driven Food Technologist / Senior Food Technologist to support our product development, application and technical services, while working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions to customers.
Job Purpose
To support sales activity by conducting product evaluation and analysis, developing formulations and preparing prototypes and finished products across various applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop application formulations, prepare prototypes and identify opportunities to scale products using appropriate manufacturing processes, ingredients and technologies.
- Conduct product evaluation, analysis and organoleptic (sensory) testing to ensure product quality, performance and consistency.
- Estimate new product costs and prepare nutritional information and product specification sheets for commercial use.
- Improve existing formulations and provide solutions for ingredient replacement based on market trends and customer needs.
- Troubleshoot customer issues and address technical concerns related to ingredient applications and product performance.
- Analyze R&D findings and communicate insights effectively to relevant personnel and sales teams while supporting broader business objectives.
- Work closely with Sales, Production, and Marketing teams, build relationships with suppliers and customers and support product demonstrations and food styling when required.
- Conduct in-house shelf life testing, prepare application reports and manage laboratory equipment, ingredients and technical databases to ensure accurate documentation.
- Carry out any other tasks and duties as assigned by the superior or management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology or equivalent from a recognised institution
- Minimum 3 years of working experience in the food industry.
- Experience or a strong understanding of bakery, beverages, powder mix products, or meat processing applications is a distinct advantage
- Strong multi-technical knowledge in food applications
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Proactive, independent and capable of working with minimal supervision
- Creative, confident and comfortable conducting presentations and product demonstrations
- Ability to start work immediately or on short notice is highly preferred
