Job Profile:

The Head of Internal Audit will report directly to the Deputy/Assistant General Manager of Internal Audit and will be responsible for driving the bank's internal audit operations.

  • Execute the development and application of a comprehensive risk-based auditing approach and control concepts within the bank
  • Direct and guide Audit teams on emerging operational, legal, and regulatory compliance matters
  • Execution of annual audit and advisory plan
  • Finding solutions to potential gaps in systems and controls
  • Developing the audit universe and preparation of the Annual Audit Plan on a risk-based approach
  • Remain abreast of the best practices, current trends, new developments, new techniques and their applications
  • Provide management with advice and recommendations through the Deputy General Manager - Internal Audit on matters requiring attention to mitigate risk, create monitoring techniques, manage risk, and implement internal control systems to maintain a strong risk and operational control culture
  • Communicate assigned tasks to the engagement team/auditee in a manner that is clear and concise, ensuring high-quality, accurate and efficient results
  • Provide quality written reports to the Management and Board Audit Committee
  • Training and development of subordinate Audit staff to achieve and comply with performance standards, and develop corrective action plans to address performance problems
  • Conduct special assignments and investigations assigned by the Board Audit Committee/Management
  • Follow up on audit recommendations post audit, validating remedial work performed by business units and closing audit issues

Candidate Prerequisites:

  • Should be a qualified Chartered Accountant/Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) or have a full professional qualification in Auditing (CIA), Banking (DABF/AIB) or Accountancy (CIMA/ACCA)
  • A bachelor’s/master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or any equivalent qualification is a plus
  • Minimum 15 years related experience in a Commercial Bank, out of which 07 years exposure in a Senior Management capacity with hands-on experience in Branch Banking, Credit, Risk Management, Treasury and Operational areas
  • Extensive understanding of the banking industry regulatory requirements, Information Technology/IT security and systems controls
  • Excellent communication skills and a flair for public relations
  • Exercise innovative leadership within a performance-driven culture and possess a “service-oriented mindset”
  • Should have a strong analytical mind, decision-making ability, planning and probing skills
  • Ability to perform in a competitive environment and collaborate with audit teams, Management and the Board
  • Should be able to work independently and proactively demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and commitment to deliver quality audits on time
  • Willingness to travel to outstation locations for fieldwork supervision
