Overview of the role
The Assistant Manager - Risk and Compliance plays a critical role in ensuring that the company’s operations adhere to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks. This position supports the Head of Risk and Compliance in implementing effective risk control strategies and cultivating a strong compliance culture across all departments.
What you will do
- Support the periodic review and enhancement of the Policies in the Risk and Compliance departments, ensuring continued alignment with regulatory expectations, emerging risks, and organizational priorities.
- Assist in the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial, operational, strategic, and compliance risks across business units, using structured risk assessment techniques and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the periodic review and refinement of risk appetite and tolerance levels, ensuring they remain aligned with the company’s evolving objectives and operating environment.
- Monitor and analyze Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and contribute to the implementation of early warning mechanisms to detect and escalate emerging risks in a timely manner.
- Contribute to fostering a risk and compliance aware culture through training and development programs.
- Assist the Head of Risk Management and Head of Compliance in compiling reports, dashboards, and briefing materials for Management Committees and Board-level Committees, ensuring clear communication of compliance levels, risk exposures, and trends.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of compliance programs across business units, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML/CFT), Know Your Customer (KYC), data protection, and other regulatory standards.
- Participate in compliance risk assessments to identify areas of regulatory exposure and recommend mitigating actions.
- Support timely dissemination of relevant regulatory updates and reports.
What equips you for the role
- Bachelor’s degree or a professional qualification.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a risk or compliance role in a banking or non-banking sector.
- Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan regulatory framework for NBFIs.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
