POSITION AVAILABLE: GROUP ASSISTANT MANAGER
SHIPPING AND ENVIRONMENT COMPLIANCE
We are seeking an experienced Group Assistant Manager Shipping and Environment Compliance to lead business functions comprising Import of Traded goods, raw materials, packing materials and machinery on time by coordinating with internal and external parties such as the Procurement team, Finance team, Sri Lanka Customs, Ports Authority, Inland Revenue Dept., Nominated banks, SLSI, Food Authority etc. Further, the position is responsible to Select cost efficient and proactive clearing agents to minimize clearing delays and clearing costs, Implement a transparent and environmentally friendly waste management system and work with regulatory and business-related bodies such as the Chambers to enjoy priority in business critical initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the group import (including inbound logistics), export (including the outbound logistics) and clearing operations on timely and cost-effective manner.
- Oversee the complete import and export processes including coordination with the inhouse procurement team to obtain/prepare shipping documents, execute Customs clearance, align the documentation with the regulatory compliance and meet required time lines and maintain a strict cost-effective import/export process.
- Maintain an accurate documentation and shipping process to comply with the Customs TIEP scheme.
- Strict compliance with local and international trade laws, customs regulations and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Negotiate for an improved service level and a competitive cost structure with the shipping lines, freight forwarders, Customs Brokers, and transporters.
- Establish a set of related KPIs for the team in line with the objectives of the Company and regularly review the KPIs to deliver the business expectations.
- Drive the Shipping and the Environment Compliance team to achieve the KPIs and work cross functionally with the relevant departments to drive operational excellence.
- Effectively collaborate with the Procurement, Warehouse, Finance, Export and Quality Assurance Departments to achieve the business goals.
- Lead and mentor the Shipping and Environment Compliance team to deliver excellent results.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional logistics certification (e.g., APICS, CLIT) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in logistics, supply chain, or import/export operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity in an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping, INCO terms, customs regulations, and import documentation.
- Proven track record in managing complex logistics networks and vendor partnerships.
- Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- A very high level of integrity and transparency.
