Assistant Accountant

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with banks to ensure sufficient balances are available to meet payment obligations.
  • Prepare and issue accurate debit notes/invoices for internal companies and, where applicable, external parties; follow up to ensure timely receipt of payments and deposit accordingly.
  • Calculate and prepare statutory payments such as NBT, VAT, stamp duty, and income tax; reconcile and file monthly/quarterly returns with the Inland Revenue.
  • Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements as per Sri Lanka Accounting Standards; record journal entries in the accounting system.
  • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all bank transactions are accurately reflected.
  • Research and analyze potential investment opportunities for excess funds and submit proposals to the Accountant, coordinate approved investments with the bank.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation by analyzing prior year actuals and departmental expenditures.
  • Support annual accounts consolidation and audits by preparing financial schedules and required documentation.

Skills and Experience Required

  • BSc in Accounting or full/part qualification in CA/CIMA/ACCA or another recognized professional body.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical and presenting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
