The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.
Job Title: Driver
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation has openings for the above positions. Apart from driving, the Driver will also act as a translator to expatriate delegates and support program team as and when required in the field. This position is based in Colombo.
Main Responsibilities
- To transport people and/or material by strictly following ICRC security guidelines and road traffic rules efficiently and safely.
- To load and unload vehicles as necessary and to ensure that the goods are loaded properly, deliver cargo as requested and obtain transport documents for all cargo transported.
- To ensure that passengers and cargo on board have the necessary authorization.
- To report technical car defects and or/missing equipment immediately to the Fleet Manager.
- To maintain the logbook of the vehicles.
- To pay specific attention and assure refueling and recording in the logbook.
- To perform daily or field trip checks as per checklist and ensure timely preparation of vehicle as per standard stipulated.
- To follow all internal ICRC driving rules and local traffic rules.
- Report immediately on any accident involved or regarding traffic, security or other problems on the road.
- Deliver or collect the official documents.
- Carry out other duties as per request of the immediate superior.
Selection requirements
- 5 Years work experience in similar function.
- Good knowledge of spoken English
- Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned area.
- Knowledge of 4x4 vehicle
- Date of employment : Immediate
- Duration : One year (Renewable)
