VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Sri Lanka since 1992, provides support to vulnerable people and people with disabilities, who are disadvantaged and particularly exposed to the risk.
HI Sri Lanka is a part of a Regional Programme where in the region, HI's interventions include physical rehabilitation, inclusive education, inclusive disaster risk reduction, inclusive economic empowerment, road safety, and inclusive local development.
The programme invites applications from competent Sri Lankan nationals for the following position:
1. Driver (Casual Basis) - 1 Position
Overview: HI is looking for service from a professional individual driver who will be assigned under casual contract to drive HI vehicle at the Colombo office on call/hourly/daily/monthly basis followed and maintained by HI rules and regulations.
Terms & Conditions:
- Fixed Term Casual contract (on call/hourly/daily/ monthly basis)
- The person could be required to do the official duty on weekends/ festival holidays or any time during the regular working day as per the need of the organization
- The casual worker will follow the working time. Working modality will be according to roster with one day off per week, minimum provided working hours 3 hours - on-call basis
- Respect the maximum driving limit of 8 hours per day. He shall not exceed 10 hours a day on exceptional occasions and ensure this is followed by a minimum of 6 hours rest.
- Must not be under the effect of alcohol or drugs or be in any other condition which will prevent him from driving with complete safety during working hours.
Location: Country Office, Colombo, Sri Lanka
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carrying staff and other passengers as per instruction as and when required
- Drive HI vehicle at Colombo and other districts for field visits
- Responsible for the safety of passengers until arrival at destination
- Drives the vehicles provided in accordance with the legislation in application
- Responsible for ensuring his/her passengers’ compliance with the Legislation in application
- Is responsible for the loading of his/her vehicle and its conformity/safety (if applicable)
- Is responsible for the cargo transported until unloading at destination (if applicable)
- Adapts his/her driving to the requirements of the products/resources and carries out controls (temperature, strapping...) while respecting the specific rules (if any)
- Monitors servicing deadlines for the vehicles assigned to him/her and makes the necessary reminders to his/her line manager (if required).
- Contributes to the program's emergency preparedness actions and during emergency, adapts his/her work modality to contribute to HI's effective humanitarian response
- Perform any other office-related duties assigned by the reporting officer / supervisor.
- Report all accidents or any abnormal circumstances to the reporting officer / supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Completed at Least secondary education (should be pass in English subject)
- Minimum 3 years of working experience as a Driver
- Have a clean valid professional driving license of at least 5 years
- Driver’s minimum age must be 25 years
- Experience working with INGO/International Organizations will be given preference
- Good Inter-personal communication skills
- Can communicate fluently in the Local language
- Able to understand and communicate in English
- Knowledge of safety and security issues
- Must have well knowledge of all traffic systems in the country
- Able to write log book properly (daily vehicle checklist, passenger information, kilometer, details of visiting areas etc)
- Knowledge of computer skill is an asset
- knowledge of vehicle maintenance, vehicle management, problem-solving skills and driving under extreme conditions
- The person should be polite, honest, serving attitude, patience, stay alert about surroundings
- self-discipline, time management skills, physically fit, sensitive in gender issue and adhere to HI Code of Conduct.
