Design and Estimation Engineer – Fire and Plumbing
A Design and Estimation Engineer – Fire and Plumbing is responsible for designing fire protection and plumbing systems for buildings, preparing technical drawings, calculating material quantities, and estimating project costs in accordance with engineering standards and client requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare fire protection and plumbing system designs.
- Develop firefighting layouts, sprinkler layouts, and plumbing drawings.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for fire protection and plumbing systems.
- Prepare BOQs (Bills of Quantities) and material take-offs.
- Estimate project costs and prepare tender submissions.
- Prepare shop drawings and schematic diagrams.
- Review technical specifications and project requirements.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, and MEP teams.
- Ensure compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and local fire and plumbing codes.
- Analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Support procurement activities through material selection and approval processes.
- Assist with project execution and site coordination activities.
- Prepare material submittals and technical documentation.
- Verify drawings, estimates, and design accuracy prior to submission.
- Use AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, and estimation software for design and estimation work.
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fire protection and plumbing design and estimation.
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Sound knowledge of firefighting systems, plumbing networks, and MEP coordination.
- Familiarity with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and local fire and plumbing codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
- Ability to prepare BOQs, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic calculations and technical drawings.
- Experience in tender preparation and technical documentation.
- Good coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
