Coordinator, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Ocean Plastics Reduction Activity

Part-time (maximum 10 days per month)

Our funding comes from a diverse array of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals.

We are searching for a dedicated, highly motivated candidate to join the Foundation's team in a USAID funded project entitled the Sri Lanka & Maldives Ocean Plastic Reduction Activity where the Foundation is a sub-contractor to Research Triangle Institute (RTI). This project aims to minimize ocean plastics pollution in Sri Lanka and the Maldives by reducing reliance on plastic products while improving integrated solid waste management (SWM) practices.

The Coordinator, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion will report directly to The Asia Foundation's Project Director, Strengthening Governance Program (SGP) at an institutional level, and be responsible to the Chief of Party of the Ocean Plastics Reduction Activity on day-to-day functional activities and work in close collaboration with the Director-Gender and Justice, Senior Technical Advisors, Program Officers, Program Assistants, and Consultants. The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Coordinator will support integrating and mainstreaming GESI into program objectives and all program activities of the Oceans Plastics Reduction Activity.

Responsibilities:

Undertake a GESI analysis of all project documents and develop a comprehensive GESI strategy for Ocean Plastics including conceptual approach, aims and objectives, a results framework, an implementation framework and a GESI Monitoring and Evaluation Plan including a tracking and reviewing mechanism.

  • Implement and monitor the GESI strategy.
  • Provide periodic updates on the implementation of the GESI Strategy to the Project Director at TAF, the Chief of Party of the Ocean Plastics Reduction Activity, Technical Advisors, Consultants, and Program officers.
  • Provide GESI input to all reports and reviews of the project.
  • Review, validate, and use GESI data to generate research and policy products that feed into the learning and knowledge cycles of the project.
  • Design and deliver capacity-building activities for the Ocean Plastics team to ensure comprehensive GESI integration and results achievement.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated work experience in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion with government and non-government institutions.
  • Experience in solid waste management initiatives will be considered an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with in a multi-cultural team environment for an international development organizations.

A basic degree in Sociology, Management or any other relevant field.

Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Ability to speak, read or write in both official languages (Sinhala and Tamil) will be an advantage.

  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets.
