COST ACCOUNTANT

Wijeya Newspapers Limited, the renowned publisher of over 18 daily, weekly, and monthly publications, including newspapers with the highest circulation in the country, has vastly expanded its business operations since its inception. We established a state-of-the-art factory in Hokandara, a cable television channel, the REACH transport service, and digital services. As a result, we are currently seeking dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to fill the following position.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Job Summary: As a Cost Accountant at our Newspaper Publishing Company, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our financial resources. Your primary responsibilities will include analyzing costs, implementing cost control measures, preparing financial reports, and providing insights to improve operational efficiency. You will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure accurate cost allocation and budget adherence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Analysis: Conduct detailed analyses of production costs, distribution expenses, and other operational expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve profitability.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts by providing accurate cost data and insights. Monitor budget variances and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Cost Control: Implement cost control measures and monitor cost drivers to ensure expenses are within budgeted limits. Identify areas of cost overruns and collaborate with relevant departments to address issues promptly.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory costing processes and valuation methods. Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile physical inventory counts with system records.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to costs, margins, and variances. Present financial data to management and provide meaningful analysis and recommendations.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and improve cost accounting processes and systems to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and data integrity. Recommend and implement automation solutions where applicable.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with departments such as production, procurement, distribution, and finance to gather cost-related information, resolve discrepancies, and streamline cost allocation processes.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements related to cost accounting and financial reporting.

Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus. Proven experience 5-7 years in cost accounting, preferably in the manufacturing industry.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.

Proficiency in cost accounting principles, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software (e.g. Oracle, SAP and QuickBooks). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments. Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
