Chief Accountant (Construction Finance)
Lead | Control | Drive Financial Excellence
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Cluster Accounts Executives and Site Accountants, ensuring clear accountability and consistent finance procedures.
- Establish and maintain SA-based controls for fuel, labor and manpower payments, and petty cash.
- Review and approve weekly reconciled accounts submitted by Cluster Accounts Executives.
- Ensure all site cash disbursements, payments, settlements, and adjustments are recorded through SAP and comply with the approved authorization matrix.
- Monitor site cash balances, utilization, outstanding advances, and reconciliation status.
- Ensure discrepancies, unsupported transactions, and uncle ar settlements are investigated and resolved within 10 calendar days.
- Authorize or recommend release of new cash floats only when the relevant accounts are fully reconciled and all approvals are complete.
- Review exception reports, aged settlements, unusual expenditure, and potential control weaknesses.
- Conduct periodic site visits, spot checks, and internal control reviews to verify physical cash, documents, and SAP balances.
- Coordinate with Construction Management, HR, Procurement, IT, and other departments to resolve payment and documentation issues.
- Prepare consolidated weekly and monthly management reports covering cash utilization, reconciliation, outstanding balances, and site performance.
- Ensure compliance with company finance policies, accounting standards, statutory requirements, and audit recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Full or part qualification in CA Sri Lanka, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent professional accounting body.
- Minimum 8–10 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience in construction, real estate development, or multi-site operations will be a strong advantage.
- Sound knowledge of SAP Business One or a comparable ERP system.
- Strong financial control, reconciliation, leadership, analytical, communication, and decision-making capability.
