CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: EMERGE CENTRE PSYCHOLOGIST

Emerge is an award-winning nonprofit in Sri Lanka focused on preventing child sexual abuse and supporting girls who have survived child sexual abuse in healing and developing their self-sufficiency (see: www.emergelanka.org). Over the past 20 years, Emerge has enabled over 1,700 young women to heal, launch businesses, finance education, and even build homes.

Emerge recently re-launched its pioneering Centre for Reintegration (https://www.emergelanka.org/emerge-centre), a programme that supports teen survivors of sexual abuse as they transition from shelter into the community. As such, Emerge is recruiting several people who are passionate about our cause to join our team.

Job Profile:

Emerge is currently looking for a full-time Psychologist to support the current programme team in running individual and group therapy sessions, along with other activities at the Emerge Reintegration Centre.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing individual and group therapy to children who have survived abuse
  • Conducting psychological assessments for Centre participants to understand their mental health needs, identifying areas of concern, and developing intervention plans
  • Offering immediate psychological support to participants and alumni in times of crises or emergencies
  • Developing mental health programmes and interventions tailored to the specific needs of participants at the Emerge Centre for Reintegration
  • Coordinating with Centre team on participant progress and needs
  • Participating in exposure visits with the participants
  • Conducting research to assess the effectiveness of mental health programmes, contributing to evidence-based practices, and ensuring program evaluation.
  • Keeping accurate records of interventions, assessments, and progress, and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors reports
  • Attending meetings on lesson planning, discussions and workshops.
  • Supporting mental health programming in the Emerge Shelter Programmes as needed

Who You Are:

We are looking for someone who...

  • Is excited by Emerge Lanka’s mission and culture.
  • Identifies as female (due to the sensitive nature of the target group)
  • Has awareness of and experience in trauma based interventions and approaches, with sensitivity to the needs of trauma survivors and other mental health challenges
  • Is able to communicate fluently in Sinhala and English (written and spoken)
  • Has computer literacy, including proficiency with zoom, Microsoft Office, and Google docs

Educational Background:

  • Masters in Psychology or Clinical Psychology from a recognized university with at least an year of supervised clinical placements
  • Undergraduate degree in counseling or psychology from a recognized university or educational institution with a minimum of 6 months supervised training or Higher National Diploma in Counseling from a recognized university or educational institution with 1 year supervised training.
  • Minimum two years work experience in providing counselling under a supervisor for youth or adolescents (experience working with survivors of sexual abuse/intimate partner violence would be an added advantage).
  • Proficiency in GSuite, Excel, Powerpoint, Monday.com, and other technology tools

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Ability to communicate in Tamil would be an added advantage
  • Passion for understanding health and wellbeing holistically
