Job Description

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: EMERGE CENTRE MANAGER

Emerge is an award-winning nonprofit in Sri Lanka focused on preventing child sexual abuse and supporting girls who have survived child sexual abuse in healing and developing their self-sufficiency (see: www.emergelanka.org). Over the past 20 years, Emerge has enabled over 1,700 young women to heal, launch businesses, finance education, and even build homes.

Emerge recently re-launched its pioneering Centre for Reintegration (https://www.emergelanka.org/emerge-centre), a programme that supports teen survivors of sexual abuse as they transition from shelter into the community. As such, Emerge is recruiting several people who are passionate about our cause to join our team.

Job Profile:

The Emerge Centre Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Emerge Centre for Reintegration, an innovative reintegration programme that supports young women who have survived abuse in successfully transitioning from living in a shelter to independent living. The Centre Manager will oversee a team of staff and volunteers who power the Centre’s day-to-day work; interact with supporters, partners, and the public; and ensure an exceptional experience for Centre participants that prepares them for independent living. This role will also play a proactive internal leadership role at Emerge—around building culture, upholding team morale, team-building and professional development, supporting team wellness, and more. The Centre Manager will report to the Head of Programmes and will provide regular progress updates to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Emerge supporters.

Responsibilities include, though are not limited to:

  • Managing the Centre team to ensure that the Centre meets its high-level vision and objectives
  • Overseeing the successful development, implementation, and improvement of all Emerge Centre programming and operations to ensure Emerge is meeting programme targets and the needs of participants
  • Overseeing Emerge Centre monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting
  • Cultivating and managing meaningful Emerge Centre partnerships and contribute to Emerge’s communication and resource development efforts

A detailed job description will be made available during the interview process.

Hours:

This position is a full-time position. Emerge’s working hours are 9:30-5:30, Monday-Friday. However, because Emerge Centre participants may need support outside of traditional business hours, this position is expected to be on call for certain types of alumni emergencies and needs outside of business hours and will be offered lieu leave when such needs arise. Additionally, this role is expected to attend occasional team events and presentations outside of normal business hours.

Who You Are:

We are looking for someone who...

  • Is able to communicate fluently in Sinhala and English (verbal and written)
  • Has relevant subject-matter expertise (e.g., expertise in youth development, gender, sexual violence, healing, reintegration, de-institutionalization, residential and community-based programming)
  • Has a strong passion for working with youth
  • Has experience managing a team, partners, external stakeholders and volunteers
  • Is comfortable with data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Has strong project management and organizational skills
  • Is committed to systems development and documenting work
  • Is excited by Emerge Lanka’s mission and culture
  • Is proficient in GSuite, Excel, Powerpoint, Slack, Monday.com, and other technology tools

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Ability to communicate in Tamil would be an added advantage
  • 5+ years of experience working with survivors of trauma and/or women, girls, and/or gender-sensitive development programmes
  • A Degree or Masters in Sociology, Human Rights, Social Work, or Development Studies
