Position Title: Project Manager – Water Sector – Water Retaining Structures, Pipelines & Manholes – Design and Construction
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Manager to oversee the design and construction of a water sector projects including concrete reservoirs, water trunk mains and gravity sewerage pipelines with manholes.
As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of the project from conception to completion, ensuring that the project meets the required standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities:
- 1. Project Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- 2. Stakeholder Management: Liaise with client, internal stakeholders, external vendors, contractors, where required with communities and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth coordination and alignment of project goals.
- 3. Budget Management: Create and manage project budgets, ensuring that expenditures are within approved limits and identifying cost-saving opportunities where possible.
- 4. Contract administration: identify scope of work changes and delay events. Ensure that contractual notices and claims are issued within the contract specified timeframe, agree claims with client and ensure timely payment.
- 5. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to the project timeline and budget.
- 6. Procurement: Oversee and/or undertake the procurement process for materials, equipment, and services required for the construction and operations of the projects.
- 7. Design Oversight: Work closely with engineering teams to review design plans, provide input on technical specifications, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
- 8. Construction Supervision: Supervise construction activities, monitor progress against established milestones, and address any issues or delays that arise during the construction phase.
- 9. Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Implement quality assurance and quality control measures to ensure that all components of the project meet specified performance criteria and regulatory requirements.
- 10. Commissioning and Testing: Coordinate the commissioning and testing of equipment and systems, ensuring that they operate as intended and meet performance targets.
- 11. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, and financial records, and provide regular updates to stakeholders on project status and performance.
- 12. A “can do” attitude with “hands on” approach in a small team where the PM is expected to have the depth and breadth of skills (without referring to various others and specialists).
Qualifications:
- 1. A tertiary qualification in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- 2. Proven experience in managing large-scale multidisciplinary construction projects, preferably in the water or wastewater industry.
- 3. Total experience of 10 years with a minimum experience of 4 years as a Project Manager working for a contractor on lump sum projects.
- 4. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- 5. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- 6. Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite, MS projects or Sure track or Primavera.
- 7. Planning and scheduling including preparation of base line schedules, monitoring and updating.
- 8. Contract claims (including extension of time claims) preparation, submission and getting paid.
- 9. Contract administration including timely notices to client, suppliers and subcontractors.
