JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Negombo
Reporting Relationships: Reports Directly to Greenhouse Operations Manager
Job Summary Purpose of the Job
Purpose of this position is to do the daily operations of the greenhouse. Their duties include carrying out the assigned tasks; such as the propagation, cultivation, and harvesting of plants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Set and manage water cycles.
- Mix and maintain fertilizer rates.
- Prune and trellis crops.
- Manage & schedule harvest based on crop/market/auction schedule.
- Disease and pest management.
- Scout/monitor for insect and fungal pathogens.
- Apply control measures including pesticide applications.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly task lists.
- Keep records of batches of crops.
- Seed and transplant lettuce each week.
- Maintain and clean hydroponic systems.
- Manage daily harvest.
- Maintain supply inventory for fertilizer, consumable items, packaging.
- Maintain food safety paperwork for the compliance purposes.
It is compulsory to meet the deadlines of the above duties and responsibilities to have an uninterrupted operation in the department.
Overall Job Competency Requirement
Academic/Professional Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Knowledge in agriculture and cultivation.
A degree in horticulture or a related field. B.Sc. (Agri) from a UGC approved University, Sri Lanka will be an added advantage.
Soft Skills
- Computer literacy.
- Internet browsing - research & learning through YouTube and other learning sites.
- Communication skills.
- Teamwork and people handling.
Apart from the above duties, you will have to attend to the responsibilities which may arise due to the need or urgency of the greenhouse operations. In the event of urgency to fulfill certain actions, Managing Partners will ask your expert support, which is not defined above.
